Ingredients and Variations

Ingredients for recipe including buns, cheddar, mustard, pickles, and butter.

Ground Turkey: use a ground turkey blend that has some fat like 90-93 percent lean. If you choose one that is too lean you will compromise the taste and texture of the sliders.

Slider Buns: I recommend using the soft King’s Hawaiian Bread rolls but you can use whatever pull apart rolls you like. Any 12-pack mini burger buns will fit the size of the meat patty perfectly.

Cheese Slices: keep the turkey burger sliders classic by using sliced cheddar cheese. You can substitute your favorite sliced cheese like American, provolone, or mozzarella cheese.

Pickles: use sliced pickles like dill pickles to flavor the sliders.

Mustard: I like to use classic yellow mustard but you can use dijon mustard or ketchup instead.

Worcestershire sauce: add a splash of Worcestershire to add extra flavor to the meat.

Garlic powder: you’ll need garlic powder in both the lean meat mixture and butter topping.

Onion powder: onion powder is used to flavor the meat.

Sesame seeds: sesame seeds are optional to add to the butter mixture that gets brushed on top of the buns. You can skip the seeds if you don’t have them.

Salt and pepper: use kosher salt and ground black pepper to flavor the meat.

Butter: use unsalted melted butter to brush on the top of the slider buns before baking.

Variations: add other favorites to change up the flavors of the sliders like red onion, feta cheese, chili powder, parmesan cheese, a tomato slice, or a ketchup or aioli spread.

How to Make Turkey Burger Sliders

This easy turkey burger sliders recipe is simple to make and is great for dinner or a crowd-pleasing appetizer. This recipe comes together fast and is baked for a simple and healthier slider option.

Process shots showing how to make recipe including pressing the meat into the pan and transferring the cooked meat to the top of the buns.

Step 1: make the turkey patty

In a large bowl, combine turkey, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. Mix well using your hands.

Press into a 9 x 13 baking pan that has been coated with cooking spray or olive oil. Bake in a preheated oven until the internal temperature of the meat is 165 degrees using a meat thermometer. Drain off any excess juices from the meat.

Step 2: build the ground turkey sliders

Use a serrated knife to slice the buns in half lengthwise. Place the bottom half of the buns in a baking pan that is lined with foil. Spread on the mustard.

Then, use two spatulas to carefully place the turkey patty on top of the buns. Place sliced pickles on top of the turkey.

Step 3: add on the cheese

Next, add on the sliced cheese and any other toppings you want to include on the ground turkey burgers. Lay out the cheese so that it slightly overlaps the slice next to it.

Step 4: brush on butter and bake

The last step is to brush the top of the slider buns with a butter mixture before returning to the oven. In a small bowl combine the melted butter, garlic powder, and sesame seeds if using.

Brush the butter mixture on the top of the buns. Then, place the sliders back in the oven on the center rack to warm through. Bake until the buns get golden brown in color.

Helpful Tips

  • Use a ground turkey mixture that is about 90-93% lean. If you get one that is too lean, the meat will be dry.
  • I like to press the meat into a 9×13 in baking sheet, but you can use a baking pan as well.
  • Use a serrated knife to carefully slice the buns in half. Careful not to make the bottom layer of buns too thin.
  • Use whatever toppings you like for this recipe. Ketchup, red onions, or bbq sauce would all be delicious.
  • Bake the sliders until the buns just start to turn golden brown and the cheese is melted. Use a serrated knife to slice the sliders into individual turkey burger sliders.
