Ingredients

Flour, milk, eggs, melted butter, and salt.
  • Flour: use regular all purpose flour here.
  • Eggs: you will need four large eggs.
  • Milk: use 2% or whole milk if possible.
  • Butter: if using salted butter, omit the additional salt in the recipe.
  • Salt: use a pinch of kosher salt if your butter is unsalted.
  • Sugar: this is optional to add to the batter. Omit if also making savory crepes.
  • Nutella: you will need about a cup of Nutella if you plan on filling all of the crepes.
  • Optional: add fresh fruit like bananas or strawberries to the crepes. Top with icing sugar before serving.

How to Make Nutella Crepes

Nutella crepes come together fast once you have the hang of making crepes. All you need is a nonstick skillet, crepe pan, or crepe maker to get started.

To ensure a smooth crepe with no lumps, I recommend mixing the crepe batter in a blender or food processor. However, you can make them by hand, just be sure to mix well.

Step 1: make the batter

Start by placing the flour, milk, eggs, melted butter, and salt in a blender. Blend on high until the batter is smooth and lump free. Pour into a bowl.

Let the crepe batter rest for about 15-20 minutes before using to allow the batter to thicken slightly. The crepe batter will be the consistency of thin pancake batter.

Step 2: cook the crepes

When ready to cook, heat a medium nonstick pan over medium-low heat. Grease the bottom of the pan with a little bit of melted butter or olive.

Pour about a ¼ of a cup of the crepe batter, in the middle of the skillet. Immediately tilt the pan to coat the bottom with the batter.

Step 3: flip the crepes

Let the crepe cook for about 1-2 minutes then carefully flip and cook the other side. The crepe will be a light golden brown in color.

Don’t worry if your first crepe doesn’t turn out perfect. Adjust to medium heat if needed.

Step 4: repeat

Transfer the cooked crepes to a plate and cover with a paper towel or plastic wrap. If using later, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Sweet Crepes Filling

The first thing you need to do to fill your Nutella crepes is to lay a single crepe down on a flat surface. Then, spread half of the crepe with Nutella.

I like to use about a tablespoon or two of Nutella per crepe, but you can always use more if you’d like. Just spread the mixture on half of the crepe.

At this point, you can add additional toppings such as sliced bananas or strawberries. Or you can fill the crepe with things like cream cheese or just fruit and make banana crepes.

Fold the crepe in half and then half again. Dust with powdered sugar or cocoa powder before serving. Top with whipped cream if desired.

You can serve these delicious Nutella crepes with fresh berries or on their own.

Recipe Tips

  • Sweet batter: when making sweet crepes, you can add a tablespoon of sugar to the batter as well as any other flavors such as extracts or liqueurs.
  • Crepe pan: you definitely don’t need any special equipment for making crepes except for a nonstick skillet. I like to keep my crepes around 8-inches in diameter and prefer to use a medium-sized non-stick frying pan.
  • Storage: leftover Nutella crepes can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Place a paper towel under the crepes to absorb any moisture. Bring to room temperature before serving.

Equipment

  • 8 or 9 inch nonstick skillet or crepe pan
  • blender or food processor

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour (270 grams)
  • 2 cups whole milk or 2% milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • butter or olive oil for greasing pan
  • 1 cup Nutella
  • powdered sugar for topping

Instructions

  • In a blender or food processor, combine the flour, milk, eggs, melted butter, sugar, and salt. Cover and blend until the mixture is smooth and there are no visible lumps.
  • Let the crepe batter rest for about 15-20 minutes at room temperature. This resting time allows the gluten to relax and results in softer crepes. Pour the batter into a large bowl.
  • Heat a non-stick crepe pan or a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Add a small amount of butter or oil to the pan and swirl it around to coat the surface.
  • Once the pan is hot, pour a small amount of the crepe batter (about ¼ cup for an 8-inch pan) into the center of the pan. Immediately tilt and rotate the pan to spread the batter thinly and evenly, covering the entire surface of the pan.
  • Cook the crepe for about 1-2 minutes until the edges start to turn golden and lift slightly from the pan. Carefully flip the crepe using a spatula or by gently lifting the edges with your fingers. Cook the other side for another 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.
  • Transfer the cooked crepe to a plate and cover it with a clean kitchen towel to keep it warm while you make the rest of the crepes. Once all the crepes are ready, spread half of a crepe with about a tablespoon of Nutella. Fold into quarters or roll them up. Serve with powdered sugar on top.

Notes
