Ingredients and Substitutions
The ingredients for Italian Sliders are: King’s Hawaiian Sweet Rolls, salami, provolone, roasted red bell peppers, banana peppers, butter, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.
- Pull Apart Rolls: I love to use the King’s Hawaiian Rolls for slider recipes. They are super soft and have a slightly sweet flavor that works so well. You can substitute any other pull apart dinner rolls that you like.
- Salami: The salami adds a salty and meaty bite, plus it’s simple to find in most grocery stores. I like to use the round of salami because they fit perfectly on the individual rolls so that you can just pull them apart. Feel free to substitute whatever lunch meat you like here.
- Jarred Peppers: To make this a feel like a real Italian hoagie, use a briny vegetable like bell peppers and banana peppers. Be sure to drain them on paper towels so that the sandwich doesn’t get wet. Substitute olives, artichoke hearts, or pepperoncini.
- Provolone Cheese: Provolone is great on hot sandwiches because it melts so beautifully. Other great substitutes would be mozzarella, Havarti, or Swiss.
How to Make Italian Sliders
Italian Sliders are easy to make and are a great way to feed a crowd. You can make these ahead and bake later. If eating now, start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees.
Would you like to save this?
Step 1: Slice the rolls in half lengthwise using a serrated knife. Place the bottom half of the rolls in a baking dish.
Step 2: Layer the toppings on the sliders. Start with two slices of salami on each bun. Then, sprinkle on the chopped and drained roasted red bell peppers and banana peppers.
Step 3: Add on the cheese slices. Provolone works great here because it melts well.
Step 4: Place the top half of the slider buns on top of the cheese. Melt butter in a small bowl and add in the garlic powder and Italian seasoning. Use a pastry brush to spread the butter on top of the buns. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
Serve the sliders warm or at room temperature. These are fun to let guests pull apart when they are warm.
